Eleftheria and NY Pancyprians March with Pride on 5th Ave Honoring Greek Independence and Justice for Cyprus
On Sunday, March 30, 2025, the Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club and the New York Pancyprian Freedoms proudly marched up Fifth Avenue in New York City, participating in the 86th Greek Independence Day Parade. This annual event commemorates the 204th anniversary of Greece’s declaration of independence from Ottoman rule and serves as a vibrant celebration of Hellenic heritage.
The parade, renowned as the largest Greek parade in America, drew thousands of spectators who lined the streets to honor Greek culture and history. Among the distinguished participants were the Pancyprian Association of America, marching behind their float adorned with the 2024 USA National Cup—a testament to their recent athletic triumphs.
Philip Christopher, President of the Pancyprian Association of America, emphasized the dual purpose of the march: celebrating Greek independence and advocating for justice in Cyprus. He stated, “We Remember and Commemorate,” highlighting the community’s ongoing commitment to addressing the 51-year occupation of northern Cyprus by Turkish troops.
As the procession moved along Fifth Avenue from 64th to 79th Streets, participants and spectators alike were reminded of the enduring spirit of the Greek people and the importance of preserving their rich cultural legacy. The participation of the Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club and the New York Pancyprian Freedoms in the Greek Independence Day Parade serves as a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity and the ongoing pursuit of freedom and justice for all.
