Pancyprians Move Past Aurelos in ENYS Amateur Open Cup

The NY Pancyprian Freedoms moved past the Westchester Aurelos FC 4-1 in the first round of the ENYS National Amateur Open Cup at Met Oval on Thursday, October 21st. The slick narrow pitch made the opening moments of the match awkward as the players found their footing and the Freedoms began to boss the proceedings.

James Thristino opened the scoring at around the 5 minute mark after a quality move from the left and an assured finish. The Freedoms doubled their lead via a set piece, a well taken corner flicked in by Vittorio Argeri at the front post.

In the second half, the Freedoms would make it 3 after yet another set piece and a towering header from Tristino who lost his markers to bag his brace.. Aurelos FC pulled one back soon after making it 3-1 and the Freedoms felt they needed to deliver a final knockout blow to really end the tie.

This is exactly what happened after substituteBradley Nestor, with individual brilliance and a sharp 1 v 1, beat his defender and the goalkeeper with a low driven shot to make the final score 4-1. Most importantly a spot in the next round was successfully secured.

The NY Pancyprian Freedoms have a massive match this Sunday against Landsdowne Yonkers FC, last years EPSL Champions in what we remember as rather controversial fashion. The game is on Sunday, October 24th at 8pm at Belson Stadium, St. John’s University, Queens, NY.

Come and show your support for our boys in blue!
