New York Pancyprian Freedoms Triumph Over Hoboken FC 4-2 as Chronis Makes Winning Debut
In an impressive performance at Belson Stadium, the New York Pancyprian Freedoms kicked off their latest campaign in the Metropolitan Conference of the Eastern Premier Soccer League (EPSL) with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Hoboken FC on Sunday, October 26th. This game marked a promising beginning under the new leadership of head coach Andreas Chronis, who took the reins to usher in a new era for the team. The Pancyprians displayed a combination of tactical finesse and tenacity to secure the win.
From the outset, the Pancyprians made their intentions clear. James Tristino opened the scoring early in the 8th minute, setting the pace for the team. Hoboken FC responded with a goal from Luca de Stasio in the 23rd minute, leveling the score and signaling that they would not go down without a fight. However, the Pancyprians’ determination shone through as Joseph Holland took control, netting a brace in the 40th and 57th minutes to widen the gap. His relentless drive on the field not only showcased his scoring abilities but also added much-needed momentum to the Pancyprian attack. Hoboken made a bid to get back in the game with Spencer Burkhardt’s goal just before halftime, but Holland returned in the 63rd minute to put the game further out of reach, capping off a brilliant hat trick.
Reflecting on the game, head coach Andreas Chronis expressed his satisfaction with the team’s overall performance. "I’m very pleased with the performance of the team as there were moments of great football, and we were able to come out in the second half and put away a difficult opponent," he said. "We hope to build on this performance in our upcoming game against Doxa this Sunday."
With this victory, the Pancyprians set a strong tone for the season ahead and now turn their focus to their next Metropolitan Conference game against 8th place Doxa FCW on Sunday, November 3rd, at Belson Stadium. The team aims to build on their winning momentum and continue making strides under Coach Chronis’s guidance, keeping their eyes set on another victory.
