NYPF Push Suffolk County FC Aside in Four Goal Win

From the moment the NY Pancyprian Freedoms (10-0-2) first touched the ball on Sunday night at Manor Field, it was clear they were on securing a win against Suffolk County FC (0-2-11) in the Metropolitan Conference of the Eastern Premier Soccer League.

In the 25th minute, NYPF forward James Tristino’s lightning pace could only be squelched with a two-footed tackle in the box. Joseph Holland stepped up to effortlessly score the penalty kick and open the scoring. Holland would convert another penalty kick, Federico DeOliveira and Charlie Ledula would each contribute a goal to make the solid 4-1 scoreline. Goalkeeper Aristides Costeas was only beaten once in a game that saw most of the action take place in the opposition half.

“It's a cup final for every opponent when they try to play the Pancyprians. Every team prepares extra to play against us,” said Panos Onisiforou, NYPF Head Coach. “This win showed we can weather any storm.”

“Teams play hard against us even if they are at the bottom of the table,” said Philip Christopher, President, Pancyprian Federation. “We are already focused on a quick turnaround to face Doxa SC and will be ready to win another battle.”

The NYPF sit in third place in their division with two games in hand and look to go back to the top of the table with their next two league games. The NYPF kickoff at 8:30pm against Doxa SC on Wednesday, March 29th at Joseph Fosina Field in Rochelle.

In a battle for Greek bragging rights, the NYPF II beat Panatha USA 5-2 in the Third Division of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League on Sunday, March 26th. After a one-minute opening goal by NYPF II striker Saleel Eldin, the NYPF fought through the aggressive game plan of Panatha. The game included 24 freekicks, three penalty kicks and a few yellow cards.

The NYPF II (11-1-1) next play on Sunday, April 2nd against Falco FC at Astoria Park (8-1-3) at 8pm.

In the Long Island Soccer Football League O-30 Reitschlin Cup, the NYPF Over-30 saw their unbeaten streak come to end in a 2-1 loss to Glen Cove 0-30. The game was marred with a complete lack of referee involvement as NYPF O-30 players were punched and kicked several times during the game, and no cards were given.

The NYPF O-30 (9-0-0) look to maintain their unbeaten streak in league play with a game on Sunday, April 2nd at 10am in Idlewild Park against Rosedale Social Football Club O-30 (7-0-4).
