Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club to March in Greek Independence Day Parade

Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club, a cornerstone of the Astoria community and one of New York City’s most recognized community-based soccer clubs, gearing up for its participation in the annual Greek Independence Day Parade on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The parade will take place on Sunday, April 14th, and promises to be a significant cultural event, celebrating Greek heritage and independence.

This year, the parade is honored to have George Karlaftis, the renowned defensive end who recently celebrated his second Super Bowl victory with the Kansas City Chiefs, as the Grand Marshal. His participation underscores the importance and grandeur of the event, symbolizing the strength and success of the Greek community worldwide.

The club’s directors, coaches, players, and parents will gather at the clubhouse in Astoria before departing together on multiples buses to join the parade. This gathering is not just a march; it is a testament to the unity and spirit of the Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club and the broader community in New York. Walking in the parade allows the Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club to showcase our identity and the community we serve, reinforcing our status as an integral part of Astoria’s cultural and social fabric.

The parade is organized by The Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have worked tirelessly to make this event possible. Special thanks go to His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, Honorary Chairman; John Catsimatidis, Chairman Emeritus; Nomiki Kastanas and Yiannis Stroumbakis, Co-Chairs; Georgia Kontzamanis, Parade Director; and particularly our very own Philip Christopher, General Chairman of The Federation.

Nicos Tziazas, President of Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club, expressed his enthusiasm and pride, stating, “It is an honor and a privilege to lead our club in this prestigious parade. Participating in the Greek Independence Day Parade is a proud moment for all of us at Eleftheria Pancyprian. It’s a day to celebrate our heritage, our achievements, and the strong community ties that we have built over the years. We are thrilled to march together, united in our pride.”

The club invites all members of the community to join in the festivities and support the Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club as they march down Fifth Avenue, embodying the spirit of Greece and showcasing the vibrant Greek community in New York City.
