Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club Triumphs in EDP League Cup U16 Final
The Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club’s ESPC 2008 team showcased resilience, determination, and exceptional skill in a stunning 4-2 victory against UST FC Academy in the EDP League Cup U16 final. The match took place on June 8, 2024, at the SUSA Sports Complex, marking a historic day for our club.
Starting off the game with fierce competition, UST FC Academy managed to secure a 1-0 lead by halftime. However, the halftime talk by coaches Josefina Velez-Tirado and Tiago Tirado proved to be the turning point. The coaches’ inspiring words ignited a fire in our players, leading to an exhilarating comeback.
In the second half, Abraham Torres Burgos leveled the score with a powerful opener for ESPC. Despite UST regaining the lead at 2-1, our team’s unwavering spirit shone through. Matthew Caballero made it 2-2, and in the dying minutes, Gael De Balanzo gave us our first lead of the game. Abraham Torres Burgos sealed the victory with his second goal, completing the brace and securing a remarkable 4-2 win.
Coach Josefina Velez-Tirado expressed immense pride in the team’s performance saying, "the boys showed incredible heart and determination. Their ability to regroup and fight back after halftime was extraordinary. This victory is due to their hard work and unity."
EPSC Zone 2 Director Paul Kontonis added, "this win is a monumental achievement for players and our coaches. It highlights our dedication to the development of our players and their exceptional commitment The team has set a high standard for themselves and our club."
Our path to the final was a journey of perseverance and excellence. It began with a commanding 5-2 victory over Barca Academy Pro on March 17th. Despite a 1-0 loss to UST FC Academy on April 13th, our team rebounded with a confident 3-0 win against DV7 on May 5th. A well deserved 2-1 victory over Kosmos FC on May 18th secured our place in the final, where our team displayed their true potential.
This triumph in the EDP League Cup final is a celebration of the spirit and camaraderie that defines Eleftheria Pancyprian Soccer Club. Our ESPC 2008 team has shown that with determination, teamwork, and the right guidance, success is inevitable. Congratulations to our champions!
