Freedoms Triumph Over New York Athletic Club with a 4-1 Victory, Eyeing Manning Cup Retention

In a dominant display of skill and teamwork, the New York Pancyprian Freedoms moved past New York Athletic Club 4-1 in a pivotal match in the Metropolitan Conference of the Eastern Premier Soccer League on Sunday, March 10, at Travers Island, Pelham, NY. The Freedoms, maintaining their stronghold at the top, have extended their lead with a total of 34 points, solidifying their position as frontrunners in the league.

The game was a showcase of exceptional talent with Sameer Fathazada, Rafael Bustamante, and Jordan Bailon each finding the back of the net. Adding to the celebration was Junior Rosero, who marked his arrival with a memorable first goal for the Freedoms. This victory not only emphasized the team's prowess but also their deep bench strength and strategic gameplay.

Looking ahead, the Freedoms are set to face NY Greek Americans in the finals of the 2023-2024 Dr. Manning Cup of ENYSSA on Tuesday, March 12th, at Randalls Island. The match, kicking off at 8pm, is especially significant as the Freedoms aim to defend their title as the current holders of the Dr. Manning Cup.

Head Coach Panos Onisiforou expressed confidence in the team's preparation and the importance of the upcoming match, stating, "Our focus is unwavering. We understand the magnitude of what a victory means, not just for us as a team, but for our entire community and the fans who support us relentlessly. We are prepared for the finals and are eager to bring home the cup once again."

In other weekend action, the fourth place NY Pancyprian Freedoms II beat first place Laberia FC in a tense 1-0 heavy weight match in the Third Division of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League on Sunday in Astoria Park. The winning goal was scored by Chris Moulinos late in the game to seal the win.

As the Freedoms gear up for what promises to be an exhilarating finals match, the spirit and determination of our team and players are palpable, ready to fight for every ball, every goal, and every victory in their quest for glory.
